The purpose of this web site is to provide information to anyone interested in learning about the original Star Co. basketball cards that were produced from 1983-86. Star was founded by Robert Levin in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1981 and maintained a P.O. Box in nearby Elkins Park, Pennsylvania for processing orders. For three years, the Star Co. had an exclusive contract with the NBA to produce basketball cards. Much misinformation and misunderstanding continue to exist concerning these cards. This web site is an attempt, in part, to deal with the inaccuracies that surround the cards by providing people with a resource to which they can turn if they wish to learn about them. To that extent, we provide photos of the original Star Co. basketball cards produced in order to make it easier for people to learn what the original cards look like while providing commentary next to the photos. Our approach is also to raise and provide answers to the most frequently asked questions. We also include a section dealing with false information and frequent misconceptions. We note several questions which we believe have not yet been answered satisfactorily. Finally, we conclude with references to articles on the subject for those wishing to read more about the cards. We provide a glossary of terms to help understand key terminology. While we recognize that there will be overlap among the sections and questions, we have done our best not to be too repetitive which is inevitable. While people can read about these cards elsewhere (i.e. in public forums), it does not necessarily mean that the information provided is accurate. In addition, second hand information is often inaccurate or incorrect as when it is relayed from one person to another as what someone allegedly said it often is misstated.
