There were three years of “main” sets or regular base sets produced by the Star Company. Each series was broken into bagged sets by team. Limited numbers were produced and print quality was generally inconsistent.
The 1985-86 set consisted of 172 cards with Green and White Celtics versions and included the True Rookie Card of Patrick Ewing and the second year base set card of Michael Jordan. The estimated production run of the 1985-86 set is 3,000-5,000.
The 1985-86 set is known for being plagued with surface issues on a large number of cards. There are parts of letters missing on many of the players' names, team names and positions. The card stock is thinner than the other regular base sets.
